I
loved this book! The characters are deftly drawn. Ms. Levigne has filled a
legend with complex people, flawed, gifted and glorious in turn. ... an
exciting story and richly drawn characters, ... full of well-chosen,
historically accurate details. From Penelope's famous loom, to
bronze-headed spears, to the leather hinges on the doors of Sparta's
palace, Ms. Levigne has chosen just the right details to bring the
Mycenaean era alive. ... I knew how the story would end -- most readers do
-- but even so, I stayed up until 2 AM to finish the book. It's that
compelling. ...
historical fiction at its very finest. I give it my highest

Full
of Greek mythology, and a fresh telling of an old classic, ... a
thoroughly enjoyable read. Although it starts slowly because of the many
Greek names and background history, the book soon becomes an adventurous
tale of love, passion, and jealousy. The tale centers on Penelope's growth
from a young, naive girl to a headstrong woman, just as her love for
Odysseus also grows. Romance Reviews Today * Reviewed by Courtney Bowden

...
a great story. ... a finely woven tale of myths and history ... I
enjoyed watching Penelope grow into a beautiful, faithful wife to her
husband even though all thought him dead, and wanted her to marry another.
The story moves along at a steady pace, the characters exciting and
appealing. I have never heard anyone tell the tales of Odysseus from his
wife's point of view before. The daily struggles and fears that went
through her mind day after day, the visions showing her things she didn't
want to believe. It is a fascinating story. ...
an exciting romance with dangerous greedy men, jealous gods, and a love
that is strong enough to weather any storm. ... I found myself
reading long into the night, sitting with Penelope awaiting her husband's
return. I recommend this book to any reader of historical romances or
those who love Greek myths, you won't be disappointed. The

The characters in this story are very colorful and described in such a way that they are easily pictured. Penelope is fifteen years old. She is skilled in fighting and she enjoys dressing as a boy to run and enjoy the freedom it offers. She is intelligent and remains loyal and devoted to her family. Odysseus is someone that hides a lot from others. He feels people look down on him for being a prince of a small poor country. People feel he is a liar and manipulator. They do not trust him. He is vulnerable and finds it hard to trust others. Yet he trusts and loves Penelope. He makes her a loving and devoted husband. The plot of this story is faith and trust. For there will come a time when Odysseus will have to go to war and ends up leaving on a voyage that last sixteen years. Penelope and Odysseus will prove that they love and are faithful to one another. The dialogue is well written and flows smoothly. Michelle L. Levigne has written a version of Odysseus's story from the view point of Penelope that is creative and a joy to read. It is an emotionally involving story that will have you worrying through the many trials Penelope will face. The cover of the book depicts Penelope looking out to sea waiting on Odysseus's return. It is well done and sets the stage for their time of separation, when Penelope spends years waiting for Odysseus's return. The Romance Studio ** 5 Hearts ** Reviewed by Anita
